A Beautiful Maternity Session at Mackay Gardens in Lake Alfred, Florida
There's something so special about capturing the season of life just before a family welcomes a new little one. The anticipation, the excitement, and those little moments of connection between everyone who is already so in love with someone they haven't even met yet.
For this beautiful maternity session, we headed to Mackay Gardens and Lakeside Preserve in Lake Alfred, Florida, one of my favorite local spots for natural, timeless portraits.
A Beautiful Setting for Maternity Photos in Lake Alfred
Mackay Gardens is such a hidden gem in Central Florida. With its towering trees, dreamy Spanish moss, lush greenery, and beautiful golden light, it offers so much variety without having to travel between different locations.
For this session, the soft neutral outfits paired beautifully with the natural surroundings. The expecting mama looked absolutely stunning in white, and the warm evening sunlight gave everything that soft, romantic feeling I love capturing.
We spent the evening creating a mixture of family portraits, sweet moments between mom and dad, and individual maternity images that really allowed her to shine.
Capturing the Moments Before Everything Changes
One of my favorite things about maternity photography is that it's about so much more than documenting a growing belly.
It's about remembering what your family looked like before the next chapter began.
The way your partner looks at you. The excitement of an older sibling waiting to meet the newest member of the family. The quiet moments when you stop and realize just how much life is about to change.
I especially loved incorporating their son into this maternity session. Those sweet moments between him and his parents are the kind of memories that become even more meaningful as the years go by.
And of course, we made plenty of time for mom to have her own beautiful portraits. Every expecting mother deserves photos that help her remember just how beautiful this season of life was.

I love that we can create so many different looks in one session. From the shaded trees and hanging moss to the open grassy areas and beautiful garden pathways, the scenery offers a gorgeous backdrop for both maternity and family photography.
It's especially beautiful during the golden hour, when the warm Florida sunlight filters through the trees and creates that soft, glowing look.

When Should You Schedule Your Maternity Photos?
I generally recommend scheduling your maternity session somewhere between 28 and 34 weeks of pregnancy.
This is usually a wonderful time to capture your growing belly while you're still comfortable enough to move around and enjoy your session.
And if you already have children, I always encourage including them! Maternity sessions can be just as much about celebrating your growing family as they are about celebrating pregnancy itself.
